Service Learning Project to Support The Children's Inn at NIH
As part of our #CharacterEducation, students participate in both grade-specific and school-wide service learning efforts each year.
On Friday, February 11, 7th-grade students packed 50 "Thoughtful Treasures" kits to be delivered to The Children's Inn at NIH. These kits included an assortment of materials to create a Thaumatrope. From the National Park Service, "A Thaumatrope or “wonder turner” is an optical illusion based on combining two images with movement. It was invented in 1826 by the English physician J.A. Paris."
Seventh-grade students worked as a class to package 50 Thoughtful Treasures kits. According to The Children's Inn website, "Each treasure brings many moments of happiness, and our children often take their treasures to their medical visits at the NIH Clinical Center to play with them while they wait."
Students were assisted by Mr. Krebs, Middle School Social Studies teacher, and Mrs. Whitney Luther, a Barnesville Parent Connection volunteer. Service-learning projects promote the development of social responsibility and personal values in our students.
