What it's like to be a Middle School Student at Barnesville!

By Growing Writer, Vivia Randall (Student, 8th grade)
Being a middle-schooler at Barnesville is hard but fun work. As an eighth grader who has experienced the Barnesville middle school experience since fifth grade, I feel obligated to share what my experience has been so far. Being in middle school is hard with all of the changes around you and inside of you, but I believe that Barnesville has made it a positive experience.

Why do I believe that you may ask? It is because of their support system. They support me academically, socially, and emotionally. As someone who is disabled, Barnesville has never caused me trouble to get the things I need to succeed, while helping me grow in other ways that I am strong or weak in. The staff is very supportive and positive about whatever your goal/desire is.

Secondly, because of how connected the students are. Most kids in middle school struggle to make friends, but Barnesville makes it as easy as possible by having social events such as Trunk-or-Treat, Homecoming, family-fun night, middle school overnight trips, etc. Since you are spending 5 days a week with the same group of kids, you become really close. I am someone who is fairly reserved, but I have made many friends here and have come out of my shell.

Finally, I would like to talk about what it’s like to be a middle school student here. You are given responsibilities, such as raising the flag, leading morning meeting, attending sport practices, and normal schoolwork. This has helped me grow as a person, and knowing how to be responsible will help me in the future no matter what my future holds. Speaking more socially, you are always laughing. I personally laugh way too much because something is always happening that cracks me up. There is never a dull moment, and I believe that’s for the better.

This is what it’s like to be a middle-school student at Barnesville. From my experience, at least, it may look totally different for someone else, which is a good thing. The middle school experience is unique to every individual. Thank you for your time in reading this.
