Thanksgiving Festivities

By Growing Writer, Johnny (Student, 8th grade)
I wake up, check the date, it turns out it's November 28th. I feel my senses start to strengthen, the smell of last year's turkey fills my nose, the taste of gravy makes me explode, I drift off into a trance and my hearing starts to expand. A memory comes into my brain, I hear my mom say “dinners ready”. But it's just a dream, my mom actually comes in for real this time and says it's time to go to the cousins and there you will eat, play, and watch football. The drive starts and I'm on my phone, I take a nap and we are here. I walk through the door and I say hello to everyone. My cousins aren’t here yet so I sit down, I turn football on and I enjoy myself. Then in an hour my cousins arrive. We head down to the basement and play around until dinner time. My grandma has been cooking and baking for hours. We split up children at one table and adults at another. We go up for servings one at a time. I'm super hungry so I get in line, I take a lot of turkey and top it with gravy, I put mashed potatoes right next to that, I also take stuffing and mac and cheese. I finish my plate and I am stuffed. I go up to my grandma and give her a hug, I thank her for the food and I walk down the stairs. I continue to play soccer in the basement until I hear “dessert is ready” and I run up the stairs. I take a massive piece of pumpkin pie and I eat it. Then we go outside and play football and soon enough I'm saying goodbye to my entire family. I get in the car and talk about how I had a good Thanks-give-ing.
