Perseverance - Inspiration from General Douglas MacArthur
By Growing Writer, Zander Quan (Student, 8th grade)
General Douglas MacArthur was a person who never gave up and persevered. He helped the United States and its allies win in World War I and World War II. Throughout his career he was an American military leader who worked as a general in the army which is the highest form of command in the army. He was instrumental in the progress of the American well being by helping the United States. Two of the battles he is most famous for planning were Iwo Jima and Midway. He also oversaw the occupation of Japan which the United States needed to defeat after the attack of Pearl Harbor. Also, he played a crucial part in staging all of the battles in the Korean war and helped save South Korea from being a communist regime. He never gave up until the United States won.
One of the things I admire about him is that he went to West Point which is the top army military school in the United States. I actually would consider going to this school for engineering or military strategy classes. I also feel he was super brave and contributed to keeping the United States free by always persevering. Also, he helped improve all of our relationships with the Soviet Union which was hard to do at the time. At the time the U.S. and Great Britain were allies, but the Soviet Union was not, but with Hitler in play, everyone had a common enemy and he assisted in building these relationships. Perseverance means pushing through without giving up and that is what MacArthur always did.
Even after he retired from the army, he continued to persevere. He helped calm down disputes between the AAU and the NCAA over control of track sports. He also got involved in helping settle disputes in the 1964 summer Olympics. So, he was like a mediator and fought for Olympic players’ rights who were in colleges. Overall, he was not only strategic and brave, he was also very kind and for human rights and never ever gave up.
