Teacher Highlight: Ms. Frances Saez | Middle School Math Teacher at Barnesville School of Arts and Sciences
Kay'La Portee
We are thrilled to highlight Ms. Frances Saez, a dedicated educator who has been part of the Barnsville community for two years. With a background in both science and bilingual education, Ms. Saez brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for her teaching.
Frances began her teaching career 10 years ago and has taught across all grade levels, from K-12. Her experience includes teaching Spanish, middle school science, algebra, and even creating curriculum for high school sustainable agriculture courses. With a degree in biology and a master’s in bilingual education, Frances has always been committed to providing students with a strong, well-rounded education.
For Ms. Saez, the most rewarding aspect of teaching at Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences is the tight-knit community. “It feels like a small community where everyone is helping each other”, she says. The support from parents and colleagues is something she deeply appreciates. Frances enjoys the challenge of helping students strengthen their mathematical skills and bridge learning gaps. One of her favorite moments is when students express their gratitude after a lesson, showing how much they care about their learning. Her goal is to guide students through the learning process and help them become stronger in math.
Beyond her classroom, Frances is also involved in Barnesville’s summer camp and after-school programs. Her dedication to the school extends well beyond her teaching duties, and she enjoys contributing to the broader school experience for students. Frances first connected with the Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences through her role as a summer camp director, where she was drawn to our school’s unique atmosphere. “The building and nature around the school are beautiful,” she explains. “Talking to Janet (Barnesville’s administrative assistant) and Susanne (Barnesville’s Head of School) I felt so welcomed, and the students at the summer camp were incredibly friendly. When an opportunity arose, I knew I had to apply.” She was immediately impressed during her interview, where students demonstrated their knowledge in a welcoming, supportive environment. It was clear to Frances that Barnesville’s community is something special.
Outside of teaching, Frances has a deep love for plants and is known as the “crazy plant lady” among her friends. She also has a passion for Legos, receiving a new Lego set each year from her family as a gift. Her husband, a high school sweetheart, shares her enthusiasm for these hobbies. When she’s not teaching or nurturing her plants, you can find her putting together intricate Lego creations.
We are lucky to have Ms. Frances Saez as part of the Barnesville family and are grateful for her dedication to both her students and the school community.
Our teaching encourages students to explore how subjects relate to one another, helping them to make connections that spark inquiry and deepen understanding.
